Font #20

NOVELTY is inspired by the name of the Common Sense Novelty Company that is carved above the door at their former factory at 2435 N. Sheffield in the Lincoln Park neighborhood. (The lettering is actually on the Montana side of the building, not the Sheffield side.) According to articles online, "[Common Sense was] a sign company, selling "advertising novelties," including "Fancy Embossed Panels; Shape Cut Hangers, Celluloid, Aluminum and Cardboard Novelties for the general trade," and it went out of business sometime in the 1950s.
